Vogue Italia Features Black Models

The July issue of Italian Vogue will focus on the beauty of black women. Every feature topic is related to black women in the arts and entertainment and all photographs are of black models. The issue’s theme and photographs were produced by Steven Meisel who is best known for his provocative photographs in Madonna’s book titled “Sex”, published in 1992.

Italian Vogue’s editor, Franca Sozzani, has gained a reputation for her appreciation of ideas and the arts, as opposed to commerce like most of her peers. Another notable characteristic of this cutting edge fashion editor is that controversy has never been a phobia of hers.

Featured in the issue are models Iman, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Jourdan Dunn, Liya Kebede, Alek Wek, Pat Cleveland and Karen Alexander. Also hired is Toccara Jones, a full-figure model, who became known from “America’s Next Top Model.”
